Can I wear my wedding dress to a reception held a month after my destination wedding?

April 14th, 2010 by admin | 11 Comments | Filed in Destination Wedding

I am having a small destination wedding in Hawaii and then a reception in my hometown a month after the wedding in Hawaii. Is it okay to wear my wedding dress to the reception so that my grandparents and others that do not attend see me in my dress? My dress is tea length strapless and white.

Please help!

do i wear my wedding dress to my reception? Just got back from a destination wedding?

April 9th, 2010 by admin | 7 Comments | Filed in Destination Wedding

i just went and had a destination wedding in hawaii, and i am planning a reception now that we are back. The reception is small, and will be a casual hawaiian theme. Do i wear my wedding dress? The reception is more than a month after my actual wedding date. Any good ideas for a hawaiian reception?

How much time do we have after eloping to mail out announcements? Throw a reception?

April 6th, 2010 by admin | 3 Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

It has already been three months. Our families know we’re married with the exception of some distant relatives and not all of our friends know yet. I just wonder what kind of timeline I should be looking at. I’m thinking a reception on our 10-year anniversary but my parents want one soon (of course). What about sending out announcements? Would a picture one with the writing on the side work or shoud I send out formal ones with a smaller picture inside?

Private destination wedding with reception “for friends and family at home”?

March 31st, 2010 by admin | 8 Comments | Filed in Destination Wedding

Some couples are choosing to have a private destination wedding, meaning it is only the bride and groom. No guests invited. They go somewhere, get married, and the honeymoon is built right in. Then, when they return home they hold a reception with family and friends. So what do you think of this?

Do you like this? Why or why not?

At a reception after a destination wedding should the bridal party wear the formal wear from the wedding day?

March 30th, 2010 by admin | 9 Comments | Filed in Destination Wedding

I am having a destination wedding in Key West, FL. I am not sure if we should rewear our formal wear at the wedding reception.

The wedding attire at the ceremony will be formal wedding attire if that makes a difference.

Going Green With Your Wedding Reception

March 14th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Wedding Travel

Almost every engaged couple wants their wedding day to be truly unique and special. They want it to reflect who they are and what they care about. With that being said, going green with your wedding is often a great way to make your day not only unique but meaningful. It gives you the opportunity to show your friends and family that living a sustainable and healthy life can be a great thing. Listed below are a few ideas that can help you plan for a green wedding. The Invitations- Things to look for when shopping for invitations.
Consider using recycled paper or paper substitutes such as cotton, hemp, bamboo, or banana stalks.
Opt out of using papers that are metallic and/or plastic-coated, these characteristics make them very hard to recycle.
Opt out of using the traditional double envelope and consider using a postcard.
Consider ditching the traditional paper method completely and use virtual invitations online or through email. There are also great wedding websites available for this as well.

Bridal Attire – Things to consider when shopping for your bridal attire
You may want to consider wearing a secondhand gown. You can have the gown altered and fitted just as if it were your own.
Consider using all-natural make-up.
Opt for using vegetable dyes on your shoes if needed, or consider going barefoot if it’s a beach wedding.
After your wedding re-donate your dress for another bride.
You may also want to choose a gown that you could wear again to another event.
Choose clothes that are made from hemp, bamboo, and organic cotton or silk– (men’s clothing also comes in organic cotton or wool).

Wedding Accessories – Things to consider when shopping for wedding accessories
Choose a vintage wedding band.
Melt down old pieces of jewelry to create a new one.
Buy a conflict-free diamond wedding band, not sure ask your jeweler.
Borrow headpieces, necklaces, and other jewelry from friends and relatives.
Consider one of kind wooden bands.

Ceremony & Reception – Things to consider when planning the reception and ceremony
Choose a location that is centrally located so it’s convenient for guests and travel times are minimized.
Consider having an outdoor wedding that infuses the green feel into the event.
Make sure your venue recycles at the end of the night.
Have your ceremony and reception at the same venue to avoid wasteful travel and decorating.
Choose a venue that is a LEED-certified space, this stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. You can search for these types of businesses at www.usgbc.org.
Use L.E.D. lighting as opposed to the normal incandescent and halogen bulbs to reduse electrical consumption.
Rent glassware, dishware, and linens instead of disposable dishes.
Consider using organic wine and beer selections.
Don’t bother using petroleum based candles; opt for beeswax candles or soy-based candles.
Donate any extra food you may have to a local homeless shelter.

Wedding Gifts – Things to consider when planning for wedding gifts.
Create a registry where your guests can donate to a charity rather than buying gifts.
Consider requesting that related guests give a combined card rather than several individual ones. This will eliminate wasted paper.
Create a custom wish-list of eco-friendly items.

Honeymoon – Things to consider when planning your honey moon
Try to travel close and avoid wasted fuels to get there.
The train is often the most green, consider this are your transportation.
Consider staying at a green resort.
Forget resorts completely and consider going camping.
Travel around on bikes while on the honeymoon.

Bridal Shower Etiquette for Destination, Private Wedding and Home Reception?

March 11th, 2010 by admin | 7 Comments | Filed in Destination Wedding

My sister is getting married in a small, private destination wedding ceremony this October and only about 10 guests are invited to the actual ceremony. When she returns to her hometown, she is planning a large cocktail party or reception for family and friends.

What is the proper etiquette for throwing her a bridal shower? Should we have one? Who should be invited? Should she register?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Sending Wedding Invitations For A Reception After A Destination Wedding

February 28th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Destination Wedding

Your destination wedding can be a fantastic and totally unique experience. While you’d like to take all of your friends and family with you, it is just not always possible for everyone to travel and get away for your wedding. In this instance, it is very common to hold another wedding reception once you have returned home. Keep your wedding invitations for your destination wedding few and save them for the reception when you return.

Invitations and announcements
Typically your destination wedding will be smaller than a traditional wedding. Since this may be the case, when planning your at-home reception plan on sending more wedding invitations than wedding announcements. Keep the reception small and light while you’re away and have a big bash when you return. This may be the one occasion when you can combine the wedding invitation and wedding announcement. Announce your wedding and then invite guests to your reception.

In some cases, if the actual wedding ceremony is much earlier than the planned ‘at home’ reception, a wedding announcement is sent separate from the wedding invitation. In this instance, you’d send a wedding invitation to those who are coming to the destination wedding, a wedding announcement to everyone else and then another wedding reception invitation to those you’d like to have at the ‘at home’ reception.

Reception
Once you’ve decided what you’re going to do for the reception, you should get those invitations in the mail. And make no mistake – this is not an everyday kind of party. You should treat this party as a real wedding reception, as that is what it is – just without the ceremony. You should have a wedding cake that you and the groom cut, a first dance and even toasts. Take advantage of this opportunity to wear your wedding dress again, this is probably the only time you will get to re-wear your wedding dress.

Elopement
There is no rule that states that you can’t have a reception after you’ve eloped. And there is also no rule that states that you have to have a reception. It’s your wedding and you can have it your way. If you do decide to have a wedding reception after you’ve eloped, make sure your wedding reception invitations state “we’ve eloped.” From there you can treat your reception as any other bride would. You can still cut the cake and have the first dance if you wish. Again, this might be the one and only place you can wear your wedding dress again.

Just an announcement
Some couples choose to elope as a way to avoid the expense of a wedding reception. This practice is perfectly acceptable as it is your wedding and you can do what you’d like. In this instance, make sure you send a wedding announcement to all of your friends and family. And while they may want to celebrate with you, it may have to be done on a smaller scale.

This is your wedding and you can make your plans any way you choose. Enjoy your romantic destination wedding and then come home and enjoy a great wedding reception. And if you decide to elope you’ve got lots of great options for wedding invitations and wedding announcements.

Check out MyExpression.com for great wedding invitations. You’ll also find great wedding announcements and much more for all of your wedding stationery needs.
