We want to do a destination wedding with just the two of us and have a reception when we come back. Bad Idea?

My fiancee and I have not gotten along with our families for a long time. We are planning a destination wedding but it will only be the two of us. Our families are upset but we are planning on having a reception when we get back. (wanting to get married in Tuscany) what do you think?

Ideas for a wedding reception at home after a destination wedding?

February 23rd, 2010 by admin | 4 Comments | Filed in Destination Wedding

Thinking about throwing a reception after our destination wedding. What is customary for these? Food? Does the bride wear wedding dress to this? Cake?

Is it tacky to register for gifts if we have a destination wedding followed by a bigger reception at home?

February 18th, 2010 by admin | 7 Comments | Filed in Destination Wedding

My fiance and I want to have a small destination wedding including our closest friends and family (18 or so people including children). Once we return home from the honeymoon, which should last no longer than a week, have a reception. I want to invite everyone we know and love to the reception. Is it tacky or weird to register for gifts since we are still having a reception at home???
Thanks for the opinions!

How far is an acceptable distance to travel from wedding ceremony to reception location?

February 10th, 2010 by admin | 12 Comments | Filed in Wedding Travel

…by which I mean:
Generally speaking, how close are site A (wedding ceremony site) and site B (reception site) if they are not being help at the same location? Obviously they’d be within easily traveled distance (not more than an hour I’d guess) but is even a 30 minute drive considered excessive?

Is a destination wedding reception the same as a traditional reception?

February 3rd, 2010 by admin | 2 Comments | Filed in Destination Wedding

If a couple gets married far away and then has a celebration back at home later, are the activities pretty much the same as a traditional wedding reception? First dance, champagne toast, cutting the cake, father/daughter dance, bouquet & garter toss, and so on? What are normal activities for a formal destination wedding celebration?
