5 Questions to Ask Before You Elope
So, you are considering elopement? Congratulations! You may have just made the choice that will save you more than 90% on the cost of a traditional wedding – while still getting to enjoy a honeymoon! However, it is understandable that you might be having a few moments of uncertainty. This is a big decision and it deserves plenty of time and consideration. If you need that little extra push to decide that elopement really is for you, then we recommend asking the following important questions:
1 – Why Do You Want to Elope?
As long as you are clear about your reasons for wanting to elope, there is really no ‘wrong’ motivation. Couples choose elopement for a variety of reasons from saving money to avoiding family politics. Some even choose to elope for the speed factor in cases where there is a chronic illness or a military deployment to consider. However, knowing your motivation will make it easier to explain it to other people so do take a step back and really think about your decision and the reasons behind it.
2 – Are You & Your Partner Both on Board?
It is important that when choosing elopement, both partners are on board. It might be the case that the thought of a big white wedding is filling you with dread, but perhaps it is all your partner has ever dreamed of. A marriage is about two people, so make sure you discuss what you both want and find a solution that suits you both. Elopements don’t have to be about just the two of you. Lot’s of couples also include their immediate family and closest friends!
3 – Have You Considered Your Family & Friends Reactions?
One of the most important factors for many couples when choosing to elope is how their family and friends will react. This is a topic that we have covered a few times in the past, offering tips on how to announce your elopement. The key factor is being honest. It is far better to explain ahead of time that you intend to elope along with the reasons why, rather than to spring it on people after the fact.
4- Have You Considered Other Options?
We are huge fans of eloping, but it is important to make sure that it is the right choice for you. Consider all of the options that are available to you. It does not need to be all or nothing. If you don’t want a big wedding, you can choose a smaller more intimate affair. Some elopement packages even allow for guests. Our ‘Should You Elope?‘ assessment may prove to be useful in deciding if elopement is the right choice.
5 – Is There a Chance You Will Regret Eloping?
One thing that we have always been honest about in regards to elopement is that there will always be someone who is upset by your decision to elope. However, assuming you have approached the subject appropriately, they should eventually get over it. However, you do need to ask yourself if this is something that you can live with, or are you going to live to regret eloping? If you prepare yourself for the aftermath, then the answer should be no – you won’t regret eloping.
These are the 5 questions to ask before you elope when you are considering an elopement, but if you have thought carefully about all aspects of it then we are confident that you will be happy in your choice.
