One of the questions that I’m frequently asked is: “Why are you so passionate about helping couples elope?”

Here’s my story: The answer probably lies in how I tied the knot back in 1968. Paraphrasing from one of the lines in Reba McEntire’s song: “I eloped before eloping was cool!”

My Elopement Story…

We didn’t call it “eloping”, but based on the definition today, that is what it was. The large traditional churches had turned down our “small wedding” ceremony requests. But we were young, very much in love and keen to marry immediately, so we sought out “non-traditional” options. I was a 19 year old “broke” student working full time as an Orderly to put myself through college. We went on to marry in the chapel of a hospital in Rochester, Minnesota we were both working in and it lasted 26 years.

Plus, later in my career as the Meeting Planner at RE/MAX, I had produced over 100 events and in 1994 I was the Wedding Planner for my Daughter’s small outdoor wedding at the Gallup Gardens in Denver. The seasoned Minister actually told us ours was one of the most well planned weddings he ever attended! My second wedding was also a small, intimate affair. We had a hand fasting and unity candle ceremony with her Cousin as our officiant. The wedding venue was the spacious walk out basement of my Denver Tech Center condo. So, I’ve lived and felt the emotions you are going through and made the decisions that you are facing with no regrets.

Rediscovering Elopement

Recently, in 2011, I re-discovered the “elopement niche” while consulting with the Innkeepers and Tourism industry in Northern California about the “small wedding” market…

Probably as a result, “eloping” just called to me! That why, now as a Grandpa to 6, I dedicate much of my time and energy to WhereToElope.com. I want to help couples of all ages and situations find an easier, less stressful and more affordable way to marry. That’s why we say: WhereToElope.com is the easiest way to, “Just Married”!
