Are Micro-Weddings the New Normal?
For more than a year now, COVID-19 has been playing havoc with wedding plans! With so much uncertainty in our lives weddings have been canceled, postponed, and totally reimagined! Many couples decided that a global pandemic wasn’t standing in the way of their love story and opted to have intimate Micro-weddings instead! Initially, these small-scale weddings were out of necessity, but now it seems they could become the new normal as couples begin to see marriage in a different light!
What Are Micro-Weddings?
We have talked about micro-weddings on our blog before, but essentially it’s just a small, intimate wedding with just a handful of guests. They are often considered a type of elopement and the name is interchangeable with other phrases like tiny weddings, intimate weddings, and so on.
Why This is More Than Just a Phase
I recently came across a news piece discussing whether or not micro-weddings would become the new normal. An elopement vendor from Dallas, TX said they had seen an increase in micro-weddings throughout the pandemic and expected the trend to continue. However, they did not really delve into the reasons why.
In my opinion, the pandemic has made couples stop to think what is important in their lives. Suddenly it is not about having a big wedding surrounded by 100s of people. They just want to celebrate with those who are most important to them. I think we are all holding our loved ones a little tighter right now! Of course, as is always the case with elopements and small weddings its also about the money. With more couples realizing they can actually get married for just a few hundred dollars they are loathed to spend tens of thousands like they once would have. The pandemic has taught us to tighten our belts as many have experienced job losses and reduction of wages and are now being less frivolous with their money.
