Sometimes weddings can bring out the worst in people. It often seems like well-meaning relatives are intent on offering their opinions on how to plan a wedding whether you have asked for their advice or not! It comes as no surprise that many couples tire of the family drama and will choose an elopement instead! As you might imagine, family drama usually features high on the list. Currently, more than 49% of couples say that family politics is one of the main reasons they choose an elopement! 

When Family Drama Becomes Too Much!

We recently came across a story on Bored Panda about one couple that called a halt to their wedding plans after too many ultimatums from both sides of the family! For over 6 months the families argued over who should be included on the guest list and the wedding date was changed several times due to similar disagreements! The family went so far as trying to write the groom’s speech for him and choosing the bride’s dress – completely disregarding the couple’s wishes. Eventually, all of the arguments and ultimatums pushed the couple into choosing an elopement instead.

Unfortunately, the arguments didn’t even stop there and when the couple announced that they had eloped, their families were angry and acted like it was some kind of betrayal. The family now insists they plan two more weddings, one for the groom’s family and one for the bride’s! It’s no wonder they decided to choose an elopement! Perhaps the worst part is they both say it’s not the first time there has been family drama regarding weddings in either family!
