Couples Choose Small Weddings & Prove Less is More!

Couples Choose Small Weddings & Prove Less is More!

According to a study by Zola, the average wedding in 2023 costs approximately $29,000! In some larger metropolitan cities, that cost can skyrocket as high as $44,000. For many couples that is a hefty price tag for just one day. That’s why we are seeing an increasing number of couples choose small weddings or elopements over a traditional big wedding. These couples may be downsizing, but they are certainly not downgrading! Let’s take a look at how the couples who choose small weddings are proving that sometimes, less is more!

Choosing Less Traditional Attire

As couples choose small weddings over big celebrations, they are also choosing less traditional attire. Wedding dress giants David’s Bridal recently filed for bankruptcy and attributed it in part to brides seeking out non-traditional gowns and many choosing to hit up thrift stores over bridal boutiques! We have previously covered the topic of ditching the dress when you choose to elope if you are in need of some inspiration.

Have Your Cake & Eat It!

Another area where couples are downsizing is wedding cakes! We often hear from couples who are concerned that choosing to elope or have a small wedding means sacrificing some of the usual features of a wedding. That isn’t the case! You can absolutely have your cake and eat it too! Many couples who are opting for a smaller wedding are simply downsizing all of the traditional features – like a wedding cake! In fact, most elopement packages will include a small cutting cake for the bride and groom. Other smaller-scale options include things like a dessert bar or cupcake stand.

Focus on The Details

One of the big ways that you can show less is more when downsizing your wedding celebrations is that you can focus on the details more than you would at a big wedding. When your guest list is smaller, you can really focus your attention on those sharing your day. We hear from many couples who have had larger weddings with 150 guests and felt like they were lost in a crowd! With a small wedding, you have only your closest friends and family in attendance and you can truly spend time celebrating with them.

What are your thoughts on couples who choose small weddings? Is it true that less is more?
