Eco-Friendly Elopement Ideas

There are a growing number of people who are keen to do their part for the environment. This extends to all aspects of their lives including weddings! Let’s take a look at some eco-friendly elopement ideas that will help you to save the planet while exchanging your vows.

Choose Local Flowers

One of the easiest eco-friendly elopement ideas that you can incorporate into your big day is to choose local flowers that are in season. This cuts down on the carbon footprint of importing flowers from other places. Not only are you reducing your carbon footprint, but you will also be supporting local businesses.

If you want to take your eco-friendly elopement one step further, you can choose to use living plants over cut flowers for your decor and even your bouquet.

Small is Sustainable

The majority of elopements are naturally more environmentally friendly because the smaller the wedding the less food and resources will be required. Small weddings are a great way to cut down on the waste that can be generated when planning a wedding. Many elopement vendors will provide everything that you need and they reuse the items for other weddings.

Choose a Venue Close to Home for an Eco-friendly Elopement

Sometimes, when we think of eloping we automatically imagine traveling to some far off location. However, that need not be the case. Lot’s of couples elope much closer to home. When you choose a local venue you can cut down on the amount of travel, thus reducing the carbon footprint of your elopement. As an added bonus, it will also reduce the overall cost of your wedding if you stick closer to home!

Ask For Donations Instead of Gifts

Eloping does not necessarily mean having to miss out of a gift registry. However, many couples feel uncomfortable accepting gifts when they didn’t invite the giver to the wedding. As a great compromise, you can ask for donations to an environmental cause or charity in lieu of a gift. Imagine having a tree planted in your name? It seems like a pretty great symbol of your growing love as a couple doesn’t it?

These are just a few ideas of how to have a more eco-friendly elopement. Can you think of any others?
