Elope Instead: Why You Should Ditch Your Fairytale Wedding

As you probably know by now, here at WhereToElope.com, we believe that those big traditional weddings are highly overrated! Several of our team have gone down the elopement or small wedding route. In fact, you can read about our Founder’s elopement and the inspiration for WhereToElope.com on our About Us page. In short, we are passionate about elopements and small weddings. That is why it is always nice for us to hear about others who share this viewpoint.

Recently, we came across an article by Jen Glantz titled ‘Why You Should Totally Ditch Your Fairytale Wedding And Elope Instead, originally published on Elite Daily, that offered up some of the reasons why people might want to ditch their plans of a fairytale wedding and opt for an elopement instead. Jen made some excellent points and you can read the article in full here. We wanted to summarize the reasons that Jen highlighted and offer our own input too.

You’ll Save a Lot of Cash!

The first point that Jen raises about elopements is that they are a great way to save a lot of money! This is something that we have talked about a great deal in the past. In fact, just recently we summarized our latest poll results highlighting that almost 73% of eloping couples do so to save money! It is also the main focus of our WhereToElope eBook.

You’ll Save The Drama For Your Mama!

It doesn’t matter how hard you try, when you are planning a big wedding there is no avoiding the drama that comes with it! Family politics are a minefield and everyone has an opinion on how to get married properly. Jen suggests eloping as the ideal solution and we couldn’t agree more. Just be sure to discuss your plans with family otherwise you will come home to even more drama!

You’ll Prolong The Honeymoon Period

One of the reasons that Jen highlighted in her article that we haven’t really discussed before is that eloping can help to prolong the honeymoon period of your relationship! She makes an excellent point! Wedding planning puts a strain on even the strongest of relationships and choosing elopement can really take the pressure off allowing you to just enjoy each other longer! Our blog about how more expensive weddings are more likely to end in divorce makes for some interesting reading!

You Can Still Have The Wedding of Your Dreams

Finally, Jen notes that eloping does not mean having to sacrifice the wedding you have always dreamed of. In fact, if you have fewer guests, those extra touches are suddenly more affordable. Eloping need not mean a basic courthouse affair, just look at our elopement packages section of this website and you will see that you can be as elaborate or as simple as your heart desires!

What do you think of Jen’s reasons for ditching a fairytale wedding in favor of an elopement? Did you cancel your plans for something more simple? We would love to hear about it!
