Elopement Cakes: Do You Need A Cake For Just Two?

One of the most common misconceptions that we hear from engaged couples who are considering an elopement is that they believe eloping means having to sacrifice some of the fun parts of the wedding – like having a wedding cake! After all, do you really need a wedding cake for just two? If you are going to go down that route then it could be argued that you really don’t need anything other than a marriage license and an officiant! The more relevant question is whether or not you want the elopement cakes and all of the extra trimmings! We always try to remind our eloping couples that this is their special day and it is entirely up to them what they would like to have including a cake if that is what is important to them! What to Consider When Choosing An Elopement Cake

If you decide that you would like to have a wedding cake as part of your elopement celebration then there are a number of things that you will need to take into consideration. One of the main ones will of course be size! Think about who is going to share the cake with you. It is more than likely going to be for just the two of you or a small group of your closest friends and family. If this is the case then there is really no point in purchasing a huge multi-tiered traditional wedding cake. It is not only a needless expense, but it is also wasteful since you are never going to be able to consume so much cake! Instead, you need to think about smaller cakes. Some bakers will be happy to produce a miniature wedding cake for you if you really want the experience, but most couples simply opt for a small single tier or some luxury cupcakes instead. Even if you do decide to opt for a small cake to serve two, there is no reason why you cannot still ask for some of the beautiful décor such as piping and sugar flowers to make it a little bit more special than just an ordinary cake.

Another thing that you will want to consider when looking at elopement cakes is your destination. Of course, the cake is not something that you are likely to travel with so you are going to need to source a local baker if your vendor is not able to provide a cake themselves. However, you do need to consider the type of cake that will be suitable for your destination. For example, a beach wedding or really any outdoor wedding in a warm climate is not the best place for a buttercream or chocolate creation! This is something that you will need to think about when choosing your cake.

As noted, you could look for a baker close to your chosen elopement destination, but it can often be easier to get an elopement cake direct from your main wedding vendor.
