Eloping Instead – Don’t Call Off The Wedding

Are you planning a wedding? Is the stress getting to you? We hear from so many couples who have reached their breaking point and are on the brink of calling off the whole wedding. Our answer is always the same: why not try eloping instead – don’t call off the wedding!

What Triggers Wedding Stress?

There are a number of things that can contribute to your stress levels when planning a wedding. One of the biggest culprits is unfortunately family! Weddings just seem to bring out the worst in people! Everyone has an opinion and it is easy to lose sight of what (or who) this celebration is actually about! If your family has any sort of rift to begin with, it just escalates these issues further. Some of the reasons why our couples are choosing eloping instead include:

  • Divorced parents refuse to be in the same room together
  • Warring factions in the family get jealous over invitations or inclusion in the bridal party
  • Overbearing moms who insist on forcing their ideas on the bride

When added to the normal stress of planning a big wedding this additional pressure is often the straw that breaks the camel’s back! Couples end up canceling their wedding just to avoid drama. However, there is another way. Eloping instead of having a big traditional wedding will not only help you to avoid stress, but it is also going to save you money! It’s a win-win situation.

How Do I Tell Everyone I am Eloping Instead?

How you broach the subject of eloping instead of a traditional wedding may depend on your reasons. If your choice is based on family feuds and drama then it may just add more fuel to the fire by telling them they have caused you to adjust your wedding plans. The family rivals may end up throwing accusations about which one is to blame. It may be easier all around if you simply tell everyone that you are choosing to elope for another reason. Saving money is one of the most common reasons couples elope, so this could be the ideal cover story if you don’t want to get dragged into any arguments.

It goes without saying that there are likely to be some family members who are disappointed not to have the opportunity to attend the wedding. Don’t allow them to make you feel guilty. This is your day and you get to say how it happens! Your loved ones may be upset initially, but they love you and they will come around eventually. We have some tips on the best ways to tell your family that you are eloping instead.

Are you eloping instead of the big wedding you originally planned? We would love to hear about your plans.
