Get Married for Less by Eloping!

Get Married for Less by Eloping!

Not too long ago, eloping carried a certain stigma. It was viewed as somewhat scandalous and many assumed to elope meant having a shotgun wedding. However, these days eloping is viewed much more favorably as an increasing number of savvy brides and grooms realize that it provides a great opportunity to get married for less!

What is an Elopement in 2021?

As noted, the definition of eloping has changed. So in 2021, what do couples mean when they say they are choosing to elope? In the past, an elopement involved only the couple, an officiant, and the necessary witnesses. However, the term has evolved to include small weddings. Olivia Smith recently wrote in the Yakima Herald that an elopement can generally have up to 10 guests, then a micro wedding or tiny wedding can go up to 30 guests. This is a good rule of thumb, but the term is flexible and some vendors will include as many as 20 in an elopement package.

Elopements are no longer kept secret nor are they limited to the courthouse. Modern elopements can include most of the same features of a traditional wedding – just scaled-down! It’s a great way to get married for less if you have a tight budget.

How Eloping Helps You to Get Married for Less

Did you know, the average cost of a wedding in 2020 was $20,286. That is a little out of budget for many couples, especially in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic. Choosing to elope can be a great way to get married for less and also adhere to ongoing restrictions on mass gatherings. An all-inclusive elopement package can be booked for between $2000-$2500 which is 90% less than the cost of a traditional wedding.

Are you thinking of choosing elopement as a way to get married for less? We would love to hear about your plans.
