Is Las Vegas the Most Popular Place to Elope?

There is little doubt that when you think of elopements, Las Vegas is a place that definitely springs to mind! Over the years Sin City has become synonymous with spontaneous weddings thanks to an abundance of drive-through wedding chapels and 24/7 weddings on the strip. It’s easy to assume that Las Vegas is the most popular place to elope, but is that really the case? Let’s explore!

Voted the Most Popular Place to Elope

In a recent survey conducted by lingerie brand Pour Moi, Las Vegas was voted as the number one most popular place to elope in the world. Other destinations in the top 5 included New Orleans, Nashville, New York, and Paris. The study apparently used Google search data to formulate the list, but it is unclear what the parameters were. Does this include actual elopements that happened? Or is it based on a more general search? Given the strong association between Las Vegas and Wedding Chapels, it is probably not all that surprising that it topped the list.

Where to Elope Readers Disagree!

Something we found really interesting is that the readers of WheretoElope.com completely disagree with the findings of this study! Every year, we analyze our own data to chart the Top 25 states to elope and the Top 25 individual venues. It is interesting to note that in search of the most popular place to elope, Las Vegas does not make the list! In fact, according to our readers, the top place to elope for 2 years running is North Carolina! Our top 5 places to elope also includes Michigan, Ohio, Florida, and Texas! This drastic change might be because we are charting actual interest from eloping couples who are visiting the hundreds of vendors we have on site. WhereToElope.com gives couples the chance to branch out to more unexpected elopement destinations since we have dedicated listings for every state plus listings from Canada and international vendors.
