Planning Small Weddings Thanks to Pandemic Fatigue
When the Coronavirus pandemic first hit, the big wedding industry took a huge hit. With large gatherings canceled and travel restrictions introduced many couples had to call off or postpone their weddings. An estimated 450,000 weddings did not go ahead as planned in the first 3 months of stay-at-home measures and some sources say that as many as 1 million 2020 big weddings were cancelled. Many couples choose to rethink their plans and started planning small weddings or micro weddings, but others postponed their big day assuming that 2021 would see a return to normality. With the latest Mask news from the CDC, that may be coming to pass. So what happens now? As pandemic fatigue sets in many couples are fed up waiting and have committed to planning small weddings instead.
It’s Time For Plan B: Planning Small Weddings
It has become apparent that it may be some time before larger weddings are appropriate. It may be even longer until everyone feels safe traveling and attending events. Couples who had planned to reschedule their weddings to Summer 2021 are now facing the choice of putting it off again or making alternative plans. For many, the effects of pandemic fatigue make additional delays seem like a step too far. The next logical step is for them to start planning small weddings or elopements instead!
Marry Now, Party Later
Last week we talked about the trend to elope now party later. That is an approach that many couples are choosing to take. It allows them to get married now in a simple, intimate ceremony and then celebrate with friends and family at a later date. Others are simply choosing to downscale their original plans for a smaller guest list at a micro wedding. Many vendors who previously dealt exclusively with larger celebrations are now introducing small wedding packages and elopements as it quickly becomes the new normal!
