Pop-Up Weddings: A New Favorite

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the wedding industry has been turned on its head! Big traditional weddings have been postponed or canceled and micro weddings and elopements have become the norm. We’ve even seen weddings go virtual thanks to Zoom weddings! Couples and vendors alike have had to rethink weddings and as a result, many new trends have emerged. One of those trends is pop-up weddings.

What Are Pop-Up Weddings?

We have actually talked about pop-up weddings in the past. It certainly isn’t a completely new idea, it is just one that is gaining more popularity as the landscape of the wedding industry continues to change. So, let’s have a quick recap – what are pop-up weddings? A pop-up wedding is similar to an elopement, but the defining feature that sets it apart is that the venue is usually a temporary one.

This could be a hotel function room that a vendor hires for a few days, decorates it, and hosts a series of short wedding ceremonies before returning the room to normal. Alternatively, we have also seen mobile wedding chapels operated out of RV’s, campervans or old school buses. These vendors drive around and park their mobile chapel in different places from one week to the next! Other options include marquees and outdoor spaces. The key is that the entire “wedding chapel” can be broken down and packed away or moved at the end of the day!

Why Are These Temporary Venues So Popular?

One of the main reasons why we are seeing many couples show an interest in having a pop-up wedding these days is that they are usually very affordable. Rather than couples having to hire a venue alone for a day, the cost is split between multiple couples. Pop-up wedding vendors will usually book one wedding ceremony every hour throughout the day. This splits the costs between anywhere from 6 to 10 couples all sharing the same venue, decor, and officiant.

Aside from the cost savings, other benefits of choosing this type of wedding ceremony include ease of planning and the chance to experience a fun and unique ceremony.

Would you ever consider a pop-up wedding? Let us hear your thoughts.
