SUPPLY- Does Your Elopement Package Fill The Need?

Does Your Elopement Package Fill The Need?

By Dave Westfall

As an elopement vendor, the most important thing from your point of view is to sell as many of your elopement packages as possible. However, if you find that you are having difficulty in doing so, then it could be because your elopement package is not quite fulfilling the need that couples have. That’s why today we want to talk a little bit about supply and demand.

Recently, we have been talking about what eloping couples are actually looking for in an elopement package and what vendors can do to make sure that they are supplying packages that offer those features. This goes hand in hand with what we teach in the ‘Supply’ section of our Webinar on ‘How to Get More Elopement Bookings’.

What is Currently in Demand?

In order to determine whether or not your elopement package is supplying what couples want, it is important to first understand what is currently in demand in terms of elopement packages. If we were to sum it up briefly, the majority of eloping couples are looking for quality, convenience and service at a fair price. Elopement packages are preferred by eloping couples over Ala Carte services and around 65% of our eloping couples are looking to spend under $1,000 on an elopement package. It is also worth noting that they want choice, and that is why we recommend using the ‘Good, Better or Best’ system when developing your elopement packages. Our statistics also show that 59% of eloping couples want an all inclusive elopement package that includes overnight lodging.

Another important point to keep in mind is that while the traditional wedding season usually runs from May until September, there is no set pattern that applies to elopements. Couples will elope whenever they feel that the timing is right and as a result you should see more steady bookings for elopements all year round. Elopements occur off season, in season, on weekdays, on weekends and generally just whenever the couple can get vacation time! That means you will have to make sure that you cover all the bases!

How Vendors Can Supply Packages To Meet That Demand!

Now that you know what eloping couples are demanding, it is easier to make sure that you are supplying the right elopement packages. If you want to attract eloping couples then the key thing is to make sure you have at least one elopement package available, if not the three ‘Good, Better or Best’ levels of packages that we recommend. In order to cover the most elements that eloping couples are looking for, your elopement package should offer an all inclusive venue, an authorized officiant and a price point of under $1,000.

Offering the type of elopement package discussed above is a great first step and it will appeal to the majority of eloping couples. However, if you want to reach as many couples as possible then you will need to offer several other packages as well. We talk about the ‘Good, Better or Best’ system for elopement packages and we have outlined what each of those should include below:

  • GOOD – This would be your basic elopement package priced between $300-$500 and it should include an officiant, vows, venue, flowers, cake and someone to take photos (even with the couples’ own camera).
  • BETTER – This should be an enhanced package that should be in the $500-$750 price range. It should include everything in the basic package, but with additional extras such as a toast, music and a professional photographer
  • BEST – This is your all inclusive package and would normally be priced between $750 and $2500. It should include everything already mentioned and additional features like spa treatments, dinner, breakfast and from 1 to 3 nights lodging for the couple.

Some vendors also like to add on some additional packages such as a Ceremony only package with venue hire, vows and an officiant for up to $300 and a more expensive ‘Elopacation’ which is like a wedding and honeymoon combined. It would likely be your Best package along with a vacation rental or week-long stay at your Inn.
