Traditional Weddings Are Out!
It’s Time for Intimate Elopements
As we continue to adjust to life in the time of a pandemic, an increasing number of couples are having to kiss goodbye to their plans for a large traditional wedding. Not only has COVID-19 put restrictions on the number of guests that are allowed to attend celebrations like weddings, but increasingly complex travel restrictions and quarantine guidance has also put the brakes on destination weddings and honeymoon plans for the time being. At this point, it is difficult to say when things might start returning to normal for the wedding industry. Not only have restrictions meant changing the way weddings are planned, but couples who had to cancel their weddings at the height of Coronavirus are scrambling to secure new dates. I think its safe to say that until further notice, traditional weddings are out! If you are one of the couples who have been affected and would rather not wait out the pandemic, then then it is time to start considering intimate elopements instead!
Coronavirus Lends Momentum to the Intimate Elopements Trend
I recently came across an article by Katie Machado at TheTravel.com that highlighted the belief that two-person elopements have become more popular. I agree with the suggestion that this is not just on the back of coronavirus, but rather it has been coming for a long time. Couples are becoming increasingly aware that marriage is about the exchange of vows and the commitment to each other – not the party! Now that COVID-19 has pushed more couples towards elopement it has simply pushed forward a trend that was already gaining momentum on its own!
Intimate Elopement Ideas
The same article also suggested a number of location ideas that might be suitable for an intimate elopement for just the two of you. However, some of these destinations such as tropical beaches and European getaways may still present some issues in terms of travel restrictions, so if you do venture overseas be sure to check into any quarantine or self-isolation restrictions that may be in place.
A safer option for your intimate elopement may be to stick closer to home. One of the ideas presented is to exchange your vows at one of our country’s beautiful national parks. This is an excellent idea and can provide some beautiful backdrops for your wedding ceremony. One of our favorite spots is the unique Mammoth Chapel in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming.
Outdoor weddings are another great idea suggested by the article as they offer plenty of space to allow for social distancing. We have a number of great elopement vendors who can offer outdoor ceremonies on their property. These include beautiful lakeside options, mountain elopements, or even private beaches.
Have you had to change your traditional wedding to an intimate elopement? We’d love to hear about it.
