What To Pack For Your Elopement?

What To Pack For Your Elopement? 2020 has not been a good year for wedding planning – or making any sort of plans at all! Many couples have found their weddings canceled or postponed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. There is a great deal of uncertainty still hanging over the wedding industry as a whole. Nobody can say when wedding planning as we know it is likely to return to what we know as normal. If it ever does! An increasing number of couples have decided not to wait out the pandemic, and are choosing elopement instead of having the big traditional wedding they originally planned for! In fact, for many couples who were not entirely sold on the traditional wedding to begin with, the current situation has made it easier than ever before to buck societal norms and choose a more intimate wedding instead!

Why It’s a Great Time to Elope

Coronavirus came steamrollering through our lives early this year and changed everything! Not only are their restrictions on how many people are allowed to gather for celebrations, but there are also travel restrictions and quarantine measures in place in some areas. Not only that, but with many people finding themselves out of work or on reduced hours thanks to the pandemic, it just makes more sense to have a small, intimate wedding over a bigger event.

What to Pack for an Elopement

So, say you do decide to head off to an intimate bed & breakfast or secluded inn with your partner for a romantic elopement – what do you need to take with you? The short answer is not much! The majority of vendors who offer elopement packages are going to include the things you need allowing you to pack light for a few days away. However, here are a few of the things you might need to consider when packing for your elopement:

  1. Wedding Attire
One thing that many brides find freeing about choosing to elope is being able to ditch the dress stress! You don’t need to wear a traditional wedding gown when you have a small and intimate ceremony. You have the freedom to wear whatever you feel the most comfortable in. Of course, if you have already purchased a dress expecting a different wedding you can still wear it. There are no rules – this is your special day so do it your way!
  2. Wedding License
You will need to secure a wedding license for the state/county that you are eloping to. Since COVID-19 means that many government offices are not handling face to face appointments, you may be able to apply for your license online. Speak to your vendor or officiant to see if they can help you with the application process.
  3. Camera
You will want to document your special day, so be sure to pack a camera of some sort. Your elopement package might include some photography depending on the vendor, but if not a member of staff will likely be happy to snap a few pictures for you on your mobile phone to remember the day by.
  4. Masks
The last accessory you imagined needing for your wedding was probably a facemask! Check with your vendor if you will be required to wear one while in common areas of the property and if masks are mandatory in local shops and businesses as rules vary from state to state. Why not choose a mask that matches your wedding attire!
