Why Are Couples Choosing Elopements Over Traditional Weddings?
Here at WhereToElope.com, we have always been avid supporters of couples choosing elopements and small weddings over big traditional celebrations. We’ve seen eloping grow in popularity over the years and lose some of the negative stigma that used to be attached to it. Through it all, we have tracked the reasons why those couples are choosing elopements over a big wedding. Year after year, those reasons have remained the same with the money-saving aspect coming out on top every year. Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, the wedding industry has seen unprecedented change throughout the last year and I thought it might be interesting to revisit some of the reasons why couples are choosing elopements.
Budget is Still a Concern When Choosing Elopements
With the growing number of couples choosing elopements during the coronavirus pandemic the number one reason remains cost! A large number of people have lost their jobs, had their hours reduced, and generally found themselves in financial difficulty. This has encouraged many couples to downsize their weddings to save money and many are choosing elopements.
Love Won’t Wait!
Another reason which has emerged this past year due to COVID-19 is that couples feel like their love won’t wait around! When restrictions first came in to play, many weddings were postponed with couples believing it would be just a few months. However, we are now almost 18 months into the pandemic and there is still no sign of life, much less the wedding industry, returning to normal. Many couples are not willing to postpone their wedding for another year, especially those who have already rescheduled once! Instead, they are downsizing their plans and shortening guest lists to fit the requirements in their state. Some couples choosing to elope now say that they might celebrate later with extended family once it is safe to do so. Hence our hashtag #ElopeNowPartyLater…
Choosing Elopements to Keep Things Simple
There is no doubt about it. Life has been pretty rough for most all lately. So much has changed and it has been unsettling living in such uncertain times. This has left couples experiencing pandemic fatigue and they are craving something simple and uncomplicated in their lives. Eloping is the ideal opportunity to have a simple, intimate micro wedding that is all about you and your relationship. There is no stress about guest lists, travel arrangements, catering, family politics, and all of the other strife big weddings can bring. An elopement package lets you just turn up with your license and get married.
