According to readers of WhereToElope.com money is the biggest motivation behind choosing to elope over having a traditional big white wedding with almost 72% of couples saying that saving money was one of the main reasons for choosing elopement.
Even although money has been the most popular answer in the WhereToElope.com poll for the second year running, it is by no means the only reason couples have for eloping. Other popular results include eliminating the stress that comes with planning a big wedding or to avoid family politics. Whatever the reason, one thing is certain – as a growing number of couples choose elopement the stigma that was once attached to it is being cast off making elopement the hottest alternative to a traditional wedding.
The survey was conducted by WhereToElope.com founder and elopement expert Dave Westfall who has been helping couples find the easiest way to ‘Just Married’ for several years. “Once again, the results of our ‘Why You Eloped’ poll have shown that money is one of the biggest influences on couples when it comes to eloping,” says Dave. “Of all of the respondents, 71.9% of them cited saving money as one of the reasons that they are eloping.” Couples who choose to elope can save up to 90% on the cost of a traditional wedding. The poll shows that 24.1% of couples are redirecting that money towards buying a home for their future.
The poll asked couples to choose the most important factors that contributed to their decision to elope as well as offering them the chance to suggest other reasons not already on the list. Historically, elopements happened when couples ran away to get married despite family disapproval, so it is interesting that almost half of the couples who participated said that escaping family politics was still a big reason our readers choose to elope!
