Is the Courthouse the Fastest Way to Elope?

Is the Courthouse Really the Fastest Way to Elope?

It’s time to get married. You have waited long enough. Tomorrow seems to far away. Eloping to the courthouse appears to be the romantic thing to do. The popularity of eloping has risen recently for many reasons. The most common reason to elope is cost. And if cost is your reason the courthouse might be the ticket. The average cost of a traditional wedding is over $32,600. But is the courthouse the fastest way to elope?

Courthouse Wedding

Getting married at the courthouse is probably your least expensive way to tie the knot with licenses averaging $40-$100; this depends on your state/province, municipality, etc. The courthouse wedding may be the quickest and of course the cheapest way to tie the knot. There is no fuss and no muss, come as you are, with the smallest amount of preparation. But here are a few things to consider; some states still require a blood test, or there is a waiting period from 24 hours to 5 days in some states between applying for and receiving a marriage license, or how soon you can marry after receiving a license. Check with your county clerk to verify how spontaneous your elopement can really be.

Fast?

Spontaneity’ thrill will have a down side. Couples may encounter problems with any elopement. There could be the disappointed family and friends who had missed out on sharing your important event. Some couples may miss the traditions of giving away the bride, scripture readings, candles, the bouquet toss, and the romantic setting for beautiful wedding photos. The rush to elope at the courthouse may have been a hasty decision that had needed a bit more thought.

Eloping does not need to leave a couple feeling as if they had lost out.
