As you should know by now, here at WhereToElope.com we are always keen to discuss the benefits of choosing elopement over a traditional wedding. In fact, it is actually fairly common for people working within the wedding industry to elope. Just recently we came across an article from renowned Wedding Planner ‘The Bitchless Bride‘ explaining her reasons for eloping instead of planning a traditional wedding for herself.

What jumped out at us when we read the article, which you can check out in full here, was that all of the reasons that she mentioned are the ones we hear most often from our couples!
Her Fiance Was Uncomfortable With A Large Wedding
The Bitchless Bride states that her most important reason was that her husband-to-be actually admitted to her that the thought of confessing deepest feeling in front of a room full of people filled him with dread. He wanted to exchange marriage vows in private. This is something that many of our readers will be able to identify with. In our ongoing poll about why people choose to elope, 52.8% stated that they just wanted to enjoy the ceremony, with many commenting that they wanted the intimacy of a person vow exchange instead of a huge production.
To Avoid Family Drama
Another big reason for eloping according to our poll is to avoid family politics and the Bitchless Bride also cites this as a key reason for eloping. She explains that her parents and her in-laws have both had messy divorces that were anything but amicable and she didn’t want to deal with their drama on her big day!
It Was All About The Money!
We have said it before and we will say it again – weddings are overpriced! We have even written a book about how to save 90% on your wedding by eloping! The Bitchless Bride says that she wasn’t willing to spend all of that money on one day and like 24.1% of our readers, she wanted to put the money towards a house.
For The Fun & Excitement
Lot’s of couples love the idea of having a secret between themselves. It is something exciting and romantic and that was another of the Bitchless Bride’s reasons for eloping.
It Felt Like Work to Plan a Wedding
The final reason why the Bitchless Bride chose to elope was that it felt like another day at work to plan her own wedding! Since she plans weddings on a daily basis she wanted a break from her day job, so choosing an elopement package made the most sense!
